It is with great regret that , because of the corona virus emergency and consequent closure of schools, art clubs and other groups, CHAS has taken the sad decision to cancel entirely all its Centenary competitions.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the national emergency and the subsequent uncertainty has made it impossible for the society to justify continuing.  We are very sorry.

Walter Cozens, a prominent local builder and keen amateur archaeologist, was instrumental in the founding of the Canterbury Archaeological Society in 1920. The inaugural meeting took place in the (original) Guildhall with the aim “to encourage the study of the history and antiquities of the City of Canterbury and surrounding” [area].

We have now reached our 100th year and to celebrate this centenary, we have planned a series of competitions with monetary prizes for various age groups to celebrate the City of Canterbury. We therefore invite entries from those living in or near Canterbury.
