Terracotta work

Description

Moulded and fired clay of fine texture used for wall facings, architectural details, and statuary. Introduced in Tudor times, but much in vogue in the mid 19th century. Colour varies with source of clay used – can be red, brown, pink, buff, or creamy white. Modern versions can be glazed in which case they are known as Faience.
