CHAS is very grateful to Canterbury Cathedral Guide, John Shirland, for allowing us to make available his summary of the history of the Cathedral Bells. To read part 1 (c.959-1981) of John’s summary please click here. To read part 2 (1981 – 2025) of John’s summary please click here.
Further below are images of 5 postcards from the Derek Butler collection. The first image (thought to be from the 1930s) shows Bell Harry with three people. CHAS would be grateful if any website visitors can identify any of these individuals. The second postcard is dated 1923 and shows 2 bells cast to commemorate change ringers who died during WW1. The third image shows part of a mayoral procession of 1934 when HMS Canterbury bell was donated to Canterbury Cathedral. And there are two further images of HMS Canterbury bell (images 4 and 5)
