First lady Mayor of Canterbury, Wartime Leader, Politician
CHAS is very grateful to Stephen Williamson (grandson of Catherine Williamson) for writing the following biography. Catherine Williamson was the first lady Mayor of Canterbury, and was widely praised for her efforts in preparing Canterbury for the twin threats of bombing and invasion in the run up to and during the start of WW2. Catherine and her husband Stephen Williamson are fondly remembered in Canterbury today for their generous donation of Tower House and Westgate Gardens to the City in 1936.
